Craig Groeschel has written one of those books that cannot be captured by a collection of quotes. Perhaps the subtitle comes closest to capturing the essence – “Believing in God but Living as if He Doesn’t Exist.” Even at that, the book in its entirety is required to establish its full value. Nonetheless, here are a few that I underlined on my journey through the pages.
- “I was a full-time pastor and a part-time follower of Christ.”
- “We are not our sins.”
- “It’s one thing to hear this with our ears, and another to understand it with our hearts.” – in reference to the phrase God loves you.
- “As you overcome any excuses that may hold you back, you’ll also want to cut any ties that might hold you down.”
- “If you honestly want to change, surround yourself with people who will help, people who believe you can do it.”
- “In God’s plan, the end never justifies the means.”
- “God isn’t against people having money and things, but he certainly hates when money and things have his people.”
- “I believe one of the main reasons people don’t share their faith in Christ is that they don’t really believe in hell.”
- “The church needs me, whether I feel like I need it or not.”
- “Be the change you want to see.”
- “God is not calling us to go to church; he is calling us to be his church, the hope of the world.”
- “If you don’t feel like you’re good enough, then you’re exactly who he’s looking for.”
