“The Art of War” by Sun Tzu

The victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won.

I picked this up during a layover in Charlotte. I enjoyed the actual book – about 35 pages. I did not, however, get a lot from the additional 180 pages of commentary. The Art of War is primarily common sense planning in the context of warfare. I believe the popularity of these writings comes with the application that can be made to business.

Here are a few quotes I underlined:

  • All warfare is based on deception.
  • To see the sun and moon is no sign of sharp sight; to hear the noise of thunder is no sign of a quick ear.
  • The victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won.
